The Mitsubishi Mirage re-defines the standards by which to judge a compact passenger car. Efficiency, practicality and portability – the Mirage has been engineered to be a car that could stand head and shoulders above the competition.
Less is more
When it comes to the cost of living and impact on the environment Mitsubishi understand the need to get it right has never been more pressing, with the challenges of the 21st Century this has never been more apparent. So at Mitsubishi Motors we have designed the new Mirage to be lighter, more efficient and more nimble than your typical small car.
What makes the Mirage so remarkable is that all this efficiency comes with so little sacrifice. Constructed of high-tensile steel panelling the Mirage is light enough to be nimble and despite its small-car appearance, roomy enough to be an ideal family car and comfortably seat 5 adults.
The five-door, five-seat Mirage is just 3710mm long (in comparison a Ford Fiesta is 3950mm) and tips the scales at a flyweight 845kg.
Such intelligent design is complimented by a suite of technology features that help make the Mirage a class-leader in economical efficiency. Efficiency-boosting technology includes stop-start, regenerative braking, a high-efficiency alternator, intelligent battery sensors and low-friction tyres. An 'Eco Drive Assist' display on the dashboard indicates how economical the driver is progressing.
The most advanced research has gone into the aerodynamics of the Mirage resulting in one the most aerodynamic vehicles in its class. The overall shape has been optimised to fine tune its drag coefficiency to just 0.27 and the sleek body, clam-shell bonnet and tapered roofline create the striking profile of a car engineered from the ground up for fuel economy (capable of an impressive 70.6mpg on the combined cycle) and CO2 efficiency. There's a choice of 71bhp 1.0-litre and 80bhp 1.2 petrol engines. Both emit less than 100g/km on the EU test cycle, which means free car tax (Vehicle Excise Duty) for owners. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard, with the option of an automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT) on the more powerful 1.2 engine.
Safety & reliability
The front end has been designed so that the driver can see both edges of the bonnet for easier parking, and a compact 9.2m turning circle should make the Mirage feel manoeuvrable around town.
The new Mirage continues in the same mould of the Mitsubishi range with safety and reliability paramount. Safety equipment installed includes ABS, electronic brake force distribution, active stability control and traction control, an emergency stop signal, brake assist and hill-start assist.
